Each Month the Morning Sun Sports Editors will Choose a Group of High School Athletes or Coaches will be Nominated for the CFX Morning Sun Athletic Excellence Award presented by McLaren Central Michigan!!

Michele Hubbard, Volleyball – Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy
Senior hitter has had a fine final season for the Irish. In 18 games played in October she has 157 kills and has hit at an eye-popping 32 percent. Hubbard had 34 aces, 54 digs and 23 blocks for the month also. The Irish host districts this weekend and are looking to put together another lengthy postseason run.
Scout Nelson, Cross Country – Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart
Senior has been nothing short of great in 2018. Three-time All-State runner led the Irish to their fifth-straight regional title at Shepherd Friday as she won the D4 race in 18:59. Nelson has finished first in eight races this fall and has finished runner-up three times. Will look to lead the Irish to a fourth-straight D4 state title this week at the MHSAA cross country finals in Brooklyn.
Kaylee Reeder, Volleyball – Carson City-Crystal
Team leader had a banner season in Mid-State Activities Conference play for the Eagles. Finished with 87 kills in conference play, 10 blocks, 15 aces and 50 digs.
Coleman Clark, Cross Country – Carson City-Crystal
One of the best young runners in the state Clark was first overall in Friday’s D4 regional at Shepherd, winning the race with a time of 16:28.1. Has won four races this season and two of his last three. Had a PR of 16:02.5 this season. Sophomore will be one to watch in the years to come. He will also be one to watch for this weekend at the MHSAA state finals.
Aidan Boyd, Clare – Soccer & football
Boyd has had a great senior season to date. On the pitch he finished his high school career as the school-record holder for career assists with 43 and career points with 97. He also scored 13 goals and had 11 assists this fall for the Clare soccer program. On the football field he’s made 53 of 57 point-after attempts for the Pioneers and is 2-for-2 in field goals with a long of 35 yards.
